One more for the road: Charles Phan, the chef-owner of the Vietnamese Slanted Door (One Ferry Building) and its shopping mall version Out the Door at the Westfield San Francisco Centre, has taken on yet another project.
He's teaming up with the developers of San Francisco's Soma Grand, a condominium complex at 1160 Mission (near Seventh Street), to put a restaurant in the 22-story tower.
The dining spot will serve the 246 condos in the building as well as the public.
As far as the concept, Phan says it won't be Vietnamese and it will be smaller than his other restaurants, according to Faith Wheeler, the chef's publicist.
Wheeler says she thinks Phan will be able to squeeze in this project between the second Out the Door (2232 Bush St., near Fillmore) slated to open in November, and the cafe and restaurant he and Loretta Keller of Coco500 are creating in the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, scheduled to open October 2008.
